I have moved my personal blog over to Robert.Hodgen.me, all future updates will happen there.
I’m in the process of moving everything over and will probably redirect this site to there soon.

I’ve closed my (other mac blog) website, MacBook 411, or simply http://MacBook411.com. The domain will now redirect to my much more popular Mac blog, OS X 411. I’ve shutdown it done because I don’t have enough time to maintain that both blogs, and it wasn’t getting much traffic.
Most of the posts I had on MacBook 411 were simply reposted from OS X 411, which is where most of my articles live.
2008 is gone and 2009 is here.
Happy New Years!
I don’t have much to say but I wanted to post something.
I’ve updated Blue X, my Wordpress theme (the one currently running on this site, although slightly modified) to a new release: 1.5.0. This new release mainly includes Lightbox 2 built-in and a few bug fixes on top of through Wordpress 2.7 support testing. If you’ve got a Wordpress blog give Blue X a try!
The latest version can be downloaded from the Blue X project page.
You may have noticed some of my previos posts about the iPhone 3G, but this one is a little different. Basically this is a test post from my iPhone to my blog using Wordpress’ new iPhone application.
Ok, so I arrived in line at 6:40 am, we talked to an Apple sales person at 10:19 and left at 11:49 with two non activated iPhone 3Gs. The largest holdup was the fact that the activation process took forever and failed. I had two iPhone 3Gs to activate, the first only took about 15 or 20 minutes while the second took nearly an hour due to AT&T activation server issues. Right now I’ve got them both hooked up to laptops waiting for them to activate.
I’m not sure what my total time spent on the iPhone 3G is after you count the fact that I’m going to have to spend more time on it at home. I’m a little disconcerted that Apple and AT&T have not fixed the exact same issue the original iPhone launch had a year ago.
An hour and a half after the store opened I’m still waiting and have only seen a limited number of iPhone 3G owners leave the store (about 15 to 20 by my count). The holdup seems to be in the activation of the phone, it appears that the activation servers have problems with the heavy traffic. Much like the original iPhone launch a year ago when users reported problems with activation, only this time you’re having to wait at the store for the activation to complete.
There are a ton of demo units in the store and they have all been activated prior to the launch, a few demo games are installed and all free applications are downloadable.
In addition to the activation problems, customers with a “fan” added to their account (an employee discount) are not able to activate the new iPhone 3G at the Apple store. Apple store employees were telling those of us waiting in line with “fan accounts” to goto an AT&T store or to remove the fan status from our accounts.
When I get my iPhone 3G I’ll update the site with details on how long each step took.
I got here around 6:40a and found a longer than expected line. The line for the iPhone 3G was stretching behind a garbage compactor near to the entrance to International Plaza. See my photos below of the line and keep checking my site for updates.
I’ll be taking photos as I go in and when I’ve got an iPhone 3G. Apple store employees have been handing out water and coffee for people waiting in line.
